Metrology of the Mind Series

New technology and more complex systems can make it harder for knowledge workers to share a common  language or 'sense'. Intergenerational workforces may also have different expectations of how to judge ‘good/bad’ and even 'true/false'.

To avoid silo-ed thinking, it is helpful to re-establish the universal standards for our reasoning -

Module 1 – “How to think straight”

Description: 2.5 hours - fun, interactive, in-person - delivered on company sites (up to 30 people).

All dates apply to Module 1.

Delivery: Illustrative thinking exercises

This learning event explores the mechanics of effective reasoning to help professionals navigate uncertainty and complexity. It introduces Daniel Kahneman’s ‘System 1’ and ‘System 2’ framework to distinguish between intuitive reaction and disciplined, rational thought.

Participants will learn to truth-test claims and the value of measuring thinking inputs and outputs against critera.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Distinguish between System 1 and System 2 thinking: Identify when they are operating on unconscious "auto-pilot" versus engaging in slow, effortful rational analysis.
  • Apply the "Three Ingredients" for thinking equilibrium: Balance information sources to stabilize  decision-making with a ‘common sense’ criteria.
  • Evaluate reasoning against 9 Intellectual Standards: Assess thoughts and arguments based on criteria such as clarity, accuracy and logic.
  •  Identify and mitigate cognitive gaps: Recognize when critical information is missing—such as having the "who" and "what" but lacking the "why".

Remaining modules are delivered virtually on dates pre-agreed (modules can be taken in any order):

  1. How to ask valuable questions (Socratic technique)
  2. How to ‘join-the-dots’  (logic mapping)
  3. How to see the big picture (the power of re-framing)
  4. How to look around corners (a Bayesian approach)
  5. How to circle the wagons (collective decision-making)

All modules cost 1,500 per session - virutal sessions are limited to 15 learners.
